Manassah Cutler and his wife, Mary Balch were my 4th great-grandparents.
Written on top of his tomb.
"Rev. Manasseh Cutler L.L.D.
He died July 28, 1823,
in the 81st year of his age.
He was beloved for his domestic and
social virtues. His talents were of a
high order. He was eminent for his
Botanical, Medical, Political and
Theological knowledge. He was a
member of literary and scientific
societies in both Europe and America.
After a useful ministry of 52 years
in this place, he expired with a firm
and peaceful reliance on his Redeemer.

as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed
but abideth forever."

Another familiar sight! My relatives are buried nearby, so I've seen this interesting brick grave marker. I'm also a Balch descendant from Mary Balch (who married Nathaniel Stone) daughter of Benjamin Balch and Sarah Gardner.
Hi Heather, glad you wrote, becausse I also have Ben. Balch and Sarah Gardner as directs. Freeborn Balch is my line. So, I know we are related through that line.
I plan on posting my Balch House picture soon, it is in Beverly.
Regarding Manassah Cutler (above) I have a large post abt. him on Thursday.
Manasseh is my half 3rd cousin 7 X removed! My 9th great grandfather was James Cutler (1605-1694). My mom was a Cutler.
I was just reading about Manasseh the other day--he was an amazing man.
