"Mount Auburn Cemetery was founded in 1831 as 'America's first garden cemetery', or the first 'rural cemetery', with classical monuments set in a rolling landscaped terrain." This statement and a full history can be located on Wikipedia and photos of the most beautiful of cemeteries. Personally, I think some people might think of it as a garden filled with sculpture. My husband I left rather early in the morning for the short drive to Cambridge, Massachusetts, we have been there before, but never to take pictures. Of course I had to take some flowering shrub photos, as spring has just sprung, but it isn't fully in color.

This is one of my favorite cemeteries! What a great time of the year to visit. Other garden cemeteries in the area are Greenlawn in Everett, and Harmony Grove in Salem, Mass. Each one is like a sculpture garden.
Betty and Heather, it was a little overcast, and not green enough for me, but still. Heather, I have lots buried at Harmony Grove. Nobody in Greenlawn. Thanks for the comments.
Oh my gosh, what a beautiful cemetery! When we get home, I need to visit it. It looks like a very restful (no pun intended) place.
Omigosh, one of my favorite cemeteries and bird-watching areas! Such memories.... Really one of my favorite haunts when I lived in Cambridge - for a poor graduate students the price was right!

Sharon, yes, it would be nice. This one is super hilly, but at least you can drive around and get lost!
Barbara, (and Greta!) I used to ride my bike around there when I was a student. I even took photos there back as an undergrad, but I have no idea where those photos are today. It would be fun to go back once a month to see the different plantings and birds over the seasons.
