I love the Family History Center at SLC, I would live there if possible, but when it is too crowded, no thanks. A discussion with DAR and NEHGS librarians and other people made me feel better, because they also felt the same way, too many people at one place. Now, I will follow my own advice and order some lectures after the conference, as written in Can't Get to a Conference? The blogging attendees will keep me and others informed of their activities, and I look forward in reading their posts. Granted they will meet new people, see old friends, go out to eat, socialize and have a great time. I will follow along on the computer and hope all of you have a wonderful time. Don't forget to do some research.

I so totally relate to the research still lying in a pile on my desk or around my office. SIGHHHH Sorry you will be missing the dinners and companionship tho.

Maybe you can spend the time you would have spent in SLC as a stay-cation: focus on getting your materials organized this week. :)
We definitely all have to make the decisions that are best for us. There is always next time. Sorry that you will miss out on the camraderie aspect of it, though!
Wendy, you are absolutly right, and now I have decided to cut way back on blogging as well. Will write about that on the 30th. Now, I am going to watch your funny video.
I've been to the FHL 2 times and loved it. I wondered also about the crowds during the conference. The library was pretty busy when I was there during a normal week when I visited before. I imagine it's a tough job to find an open microfilm reader.
Jenna, I agree, and am really glad I didn't go. It is fun reading what other people say about it.
My friend and I were originally going to go, but we decided to take the NGS Research Trip last October instead. We knew that it would be crowded and we really wanted to focus on research, since neither of us had been to the FHL before. It was the best decision for us. I would still like to have gone for the conference, but I'm taking advantage of things closer to home.
Thanks Julie for your comment, and it is nice knowing there are some of us who think alike. Now their mad rush home begins and we are already safely home.
