Because of my proximity to many local libraries and the New England Historic Genealogical Society's Library (NEHGS) in Boston, I don't purchase many books. I do have a collection, but I wouldn't call it large. However, there are some I would really love to own, to read cover-to-cover, and would like to buy these displayed below. Anybody wanting to sell their gently used copies?
Many years ago, I met Robert Charles Anderson, the author of the series of books, while he was working on one of the early volumes in this series. I couldn't wait for them to be published because they cover the time frame 1620-1633, and I hoped some of my ancestors would be included. (Book title: Anderson, Robert C., The Great Migration Begins, Immigrants to New England 1620-1633, Vol. III, P-W, (Boston: NEHGS, 1995)
Three of these books are used almost every time I go to the library. Two pertaining to cemeteries in Connecticut are new to me as of this past week.- Jones, Henry Z., Jr., The Palatine Families of New York (A Study of the German Immigrants Who Arrived in Colonial New York in 1710) (Universal City, CA: 1985)
- Duemyer, Louis, Intro. by, Records of the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, NY 1683-1809 (Baltimore: Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc. 1978)
- Hosley, William, By Their Markers Ye Shall Know them: A Chronicle of the History and Restorations of Hartford's Ancient Burying Ground (Hartford, CT: The Ancient Burying Ground Association, Inc., 1994)
- Barlow, Claude Willis, John Steevens of Guilford, Connecticut, (Rochester, NY: John M. Stephens, 1976).
- Tillotson, Edward S., compiler, Wethersfield Inscriptions : a complete record of the inscriptions in the five burial places in the ancient town of Wethersfield , (William F.J. Boardman, Hartford, Conn.1899), (reprinted Whitefish, MT] : Kessinger Publishing, [2008?])

I haven't done much work on my New England lines but "found" the Dawes-Gates books a few years ago with lots of info on my Gardner, Goodrich, Kilbourn, Marvin and Moody lines (some lines we share, I think). I agree, Dawes-Gates is a fantastic resource! A real gem.
Another book on some of those lines is "Hale, House and Related Families" by Donald Lines Jacobus and Edgar Francis Waterman.
I'll have to look into some of the other books you have listed when I get around to doing more New England research! Thanks for the leads.
Oh my goodness, how I would love to own "The Great Migration" series as well! I have quite a few books purchased from NEHGS, some by Robert Charles Anderson. It would be lovely to live closer and make use of the library - I've only been once during a visit home. If I track down anything of interest here in England, I'll send it your way. ;)
Becky, you are right, we share Gardner, Kilbourn, Marvin and Moody. Hello cousin x4. I like HH too. And, Wendy I wish I had the $$ for TGM series. Enjoy England, and I'll enjoy the New England for you. If I can help either of you, you know where I am.
Thanks for the references. I love The Great Migration series, too. I have used the Dawes-Gates many times. Just think of what we could do with money for genealogy!
Barb, what a great list. "Great Migration" would be at the top of my list, too, but fortunately it is available on line. I love the Gates-Dawes books and you must have worked a long time on all those links! I'm glad you highlighted the Balches.
Brenda, I'm glad you've discovered those two books as well. Heather, is the entire series online, I thought just the first few? Regarding DG, I didn't do the links, I copied them from Ancestry. Yes, I knew we share the Balches, thought of you.
Good idea for a post, Barbara! One I'd like to at least see sometime is American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI), which apparently is located at the Godfrey library in Middletown, CT.
Thanks for the increased knowledge. I did not know about these books. Living in the south, I was informed by the Librarian they were a Southern Library. (rolling eyes)
Barbara, it looks like we share Palatine interest. I have gotten the Hank Z. Jones book from the library so many times. I had a great chat with him at NERGC in 2007. Those Palatines can be tough to research. You have some old lines you are researching! I would love to have the Great Migration books too.
Thank you Susan, Frances and Marian for your comments. Susan, I've never been to the Godfrey (now on my Bucket List), Marian I've envious that you met Mr. Jones, and Frances you need to teach that librarian a thing or two!
