The Life From The Roots blog topics have changed several times since I began this blog in 2009. I initially wrote only about the family history I had been working on for 20 years. Years later, I was into visiting gardens, historical homes, churches, libraries that had genealogical collections, historical societies, war memorials, and travel/tourism places. I also enjoy posting autographs and photos of famous people I've met or have seen.

Along with my New England roots, other areas include New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.

Please check out the labels on the right side for topics (please note, they need work). Below the labels and pageviews is a listing of my top nine posts, according to Google. Four of them pertain to Lowell, MA. These posts change often because they are based on what people are reading.

The Chinese House, a Fashion and Design Exhibit and a surprise at the Essex Peabody Museum in Salem, Massachusetts

The Peabody Essex Museum Salem, Massachusetts

The Chinese House can be seen in a 30-minute free self-guided tour of the 200-year-old house. This has been a permanent attraction for almost 20 years. On this April 10, 2023 day, The tour had about 12 people. (See flyer below.) See the museum link for more information.

Looking down on the first floor. I was the only one in this group who went to the second floor.

Interior courtyard for relaxing, getting something to eat, gift shop, and using the restroom.

Different styles of shoes through the ages.

This was a nice surprise. It's a view from the museum to the Charter Street Cemetery (very historic) in Salem. From this view, you can see some old tombstones. Map below.

The Organ Concert and a Bell Ringing Concert i at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall

On August 30, 2023, I went with a friend to hear my first organ concert. When we entered the building and saw the organ, I was surprised at how massive it was.

Methuen, Massachusetts

The ceiling was beautiful.
The organist was from Houston, Texas.
We were early and by the time the concert started, every seat was taken.

Another view of the ceiling.

I went back to take daytime photos and to attend a concert given by the New England Ringers. For all performances, we are not allowed to take photos.

The program on the night I went.
