The Life From The Roots blog topics have changed several times since I began this blog in 2009. I initially wrote only about the family history I had been working on for 20 years. Years later, I was into visiting gardens, historical homes, churches, libraries that had genealogical collections, historical societies, war memorials, and travel/tourism places. I also enjoy posting autographs and photos of famous people I've met or have seen.

Along with my New England roots, other areas include New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.

Please check out the labels on the right side for topics (please note, they need work). Below the labels and pageviews is a listing of my top nine posts, according to Google. Four of them pertain to Lowell, MA. These posts change often because they are based on what people are reading.

38 Three posts are about the House/Farm, the Historical Society on a Stamp an very old Family Cemetery in Dunham, Quebec, Canada

Ten Eyck Farm, Dunham, Quebec, Canada

My grandmother was born here. She came to the US to attend a nursing school and utimately married my grandfather. We visited this area often because there was family there. This area has my 22 direct ancestors buried here, surnames are Westover, Pell, Rosenberger, Jaquays, Bockus, Currie, Holmes and Knap. (All their cemetery photos are on this blog.)

My Favorite Historical Society is on a Stamp!

I wrote "The Ten Eyck Cemetery, is located on private property in an Apple Orchard in Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Quebec, Canada. Three generations of direct ancestors of mine were buried here. Because of their relationship to me, and their history, this cemetery discovery was one of my favorite thrills in all my discoveries. It sure helped that the family has been on this land for over 200 years."

The Ten Eyck Family & Farm in Dunham
  • History: The Ten Eyck family settled in the Township of Dunham in the Eastern Townships of Quebec in 1794, led by the Loyalist Andres Ten Eyck. [1, 2]
  • Location: The historic property features Chemin Ten Eyck, the Ten Eyck Family Cemetery, and long-standing generational family land (with historic structures such as a 12-sided barn and surrounding acreage).
  • Dunham Orchards: If you are looking for pick-your-own apples directly in Dunham, Quebec, the prominent local orchard is the ecological Domaine de Dunham, which features over 25,000 fruit trees (apples, pears, plums, and crab-apples).

Poole Manuscript -- Pages 1-25   (and see below)

A brief description of the Poole manuscript and where it is located may be found on my post called, "Manuscripts at the New England Historic Genealogical Society." The below was typed by Barry Briggs. (He wrote me because his wife has the Poole line. I told him about this manuscript so had the knowledge and time to type it up, and connect the pages with links to the original page. Many years later, he had a computer problem, so you can't see the original pages.)  The first 25 pages out of 257 pages are shown here, other pages to follow in the future.
This was written by Charles H. Poole.  The manuscript resides at the New England Historic Genealogical Society at 99 Newbury Street, Boston.  The document is in fragile shape and only available through the efforts of Barbara Poole. It was transcribed by Barry Briggs.  My (Barry's) notes are in brackets: [].

The front cover is simply POOLE printed by hand with the date Dec 27 1945 stamped in the upper right corner.  The Endpaper has a New England Historic Genealogical Society sticker crediting donation by William P. Greenlaw of Winthrop, Massachusetts, February 14, 1916, and “Property of Society Dec. 27, 1945 on the death of Mr. Greenlaw”.
[ This was originally written by Charles H. Poole about 1876 (see page 134).  Charles Henry Poole was born Dec. 12, 1835 died ???]
The flyleaf is as follows:
