After my grandfather's death, I took these spoons because nobody wanted them. I didn't have a clue who the previous owners were.
Through research, I discovered they belonged to my great-great and great-great-great grandmothers.
The top initials are LAL for Laura Ann Lowrey
The bottom initials are HN for Harriet Newell
Laura Ann was born Sept. 3, 1820, died June 14, 1892
Harriet Newell is the mother of Laura
Harriet was born March 3, 1794, died June 17, 1878

I think it's wonderful to have the spoons, the research, the genealogy and to know that generations of women have cherished these spoons!
Thank you Heather. I enjoyed it. (No more spoons left to discuss.)
It's great to be able to reach back in time like this.
WOW! Great post and story and the spoons are lovely.
How fortunate you took the spoons before they, and their history, were lost forever! :-) Jo
Loved learning about your spoons. Such treasures. And I'm a big fan of "plain". We use the word elegant around here.
Les, Carol, Jo and Susan, thank you all for your comments. I am very lucky to have them, I love the mother daughter connection.
I've really enjoyed these posts. You have such treasures. The topic catches attention right now since I am going through the same thing with our family "stuff".
Michelle, one of these days, I'm going to use them for a day, maybe go back in time. Good luck with your treasures.
