Merrimack Riverwalk, Lowell, MA. -- A New Walkway in the Future, Part 1 (2014, 2021.2022).

As I walked along the Bridge Street Bridge on December 21, 2021, I noticed the sign shown below. A few weeks later, after some snow, I returned on January 27, 2022, to see if any work had begun. Yes, I knew it had when I looked down and saw a crew of men working the new Riverwalk. This post is in two parts because there are many photos.

Across from the sign is Boott Mill and the walkway.

My husband was on the walkway below Boott Mills in December 2014. I assume the new walkway on the other side of the bridge will look similar. I don't know if the trial will be continuous and go under the bridge. Update: the answer is yes.

On the bank of the Merrimack, you can see where the Concord River meets the Merrimack River.

Part 2 will be about the extension of the walkway.

Even though the bridge was in place, the street, sidewalks and parking garage had to be constructed. And, the apartments on top and at the side of the bridge.

The 87' bridge opened to pedestrians and cars on Friday, January 14, 2022.

It is over the Pawtucket Canal. This road takes you to Dutton St. and Broadway St. both straight ahead. I took these photos on January 16, 2022.

From Bridge to Bridge, a Wonderful Walk in Lowell, MA, December 27, 2014.

On this day, this walk from a bank on the Merrimack River took my husband and me from a parking lot next to CAP and the garden to Hunt's Falls Bridge, to under Bridge Street Bridge, and over the Aiken Street Bridge. We walked back to downtown, then realized we hadn't walked over the Bridge Street, so we did. This unusual path is why I put in the times, otherwise, I wouldn't know how long and what we saw first. I hope everybody who can, will do this walk, it's a great way to really see parts of the city. It will be quiet, interesting, a great thing to do with family or friends and it's mostly COVID free.
