Lawrence Library, Pepperell, Massachusetts -- Local History and Genealogy Room
The Lawrence Library, located in Pepperell, Massachusetts was dedicated in 1901, and was the gift of Charles Farrar Lawrence. The architects, Ernest Flagg and W.B. Chambers also designed the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. There is so much to like about this library, and it isn't all about their fabulous local history and genealogy room, but about the architecture, and the Mr. Sidney M. Shattuck's personal collection of 110 local birds, all carefully mounted and labeled and on permanent display in the Reading Room, with larger birds displayed throughout the Library. The original section of the library is museum-quality, with so much to see.
We visited on a dark rainy day, several weeks before Halloween. The stuffed figures on the steps were holiday decorations. This is a library I look forward visiting again, on a sunny day. The following four photos show two original rooms in the library, a reading room with the bird display and the main library. Because of lightening, the green walls look a little off.
I had a librarian let me into this fabulous history/genealogy room. There was so much to see, and not just books. Unfortunately, I don't have any family members from Pepperell, but they did have books for other cities and towns. I hope you enjoy the seven photos.
