The Life From The Roots blog topics have changed several times since I began this blog in 2009. I initially wrote only about the family history I had been working on for 20 years. Years later, I was into visiting gardens, historical homes, churches, libraries that had genealogical collections, historical societies, war memorials, and travel/tourism places. I also enjoy posting autographs and photos of famous people I've met or have seen.

Along with my New England roots, other areas include New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.

Please check out the labels on the right side for topics (please note, they need work). Below the labels and pageviews is a listing of my top nine posts, according to Google. Four of them pertain to Lowell, MA. These posts change often because they are based on what people are reading.

Ramalho 's West End Gym

This run down gym was very popular with some boxers. Notable was "Micky Ward who was a junior welterweight battler from Lowell, Massachusetts who fought from 1985 to 2003, ending his career with a record of 38-12 and 27 KO. Ward was an excellent example of a fighter who was generally loved and supported by fans despite never winning a world title." (per google.)

The mill as seen from across the Concord River.

Concord River behind this mill called Waterhead located at 850 Lawrence St.

Lovely pathway by the restored mill.

Lovely new walkway from the Lowell Cemetery to near Rogers Street.

Jackson Street including Mills.

I once applied for a job in this building. Not sure if the company was called Adden. I remember they made fabrics for car seats. I also remember another factory made Girl Scout cookies (called Educator and we could purchase samples) and another mill made fabric for clothes which we could purchase it. Other mills made socks and I think shoes.

The building on the left was completed first. It's called Counting House Lofts.
Note Lowell court house not shown in the distance, on the left side. It is shown below.

From the mills facing towards the canal and Market Street.

I took this photo in November 2014. It was my first journey into the mill area one early Saturday morning. This building may be seen in above photo.
