The small newspaper clipping to the left of my computer is an USA Today survey of almost 8,000 people. The question, "Do you have paper files from more than a year ago on your desk?" The question was asked to employees. The results were: 51% said "Yes" 49% said "No."
I'm not an employee, but looked at my area; on top of desk, below, and at the small desk holding my printer (top, middle and floor area) and found I had several notes on Christmas pads, and stuff from over two years ago. About 70% of the papers are over a year. One of these days, I'll tackle them. Now, how is your genealogy area looking?
Note: I will not show my dining room table or my spare room where most of my files are.

Barb, We're in the same boat. Lots of files over 2 years old on and around my desk. As for my dining room table and spare bedroom, I'm not going to go there either!
I don't dare look! But I can state with complete certainty that there are papers far older than one or two years. I'm looking at my grandmother's genealogical notes from the 1960s as I write this.
That looked like my state of affairs until about 2-1/2 weeks ago when I decided to dig in and straighten things out, back up, enter data etc.. and after all this time I'm not done. Proof it was high time to get started smile.
LOL. I have files older than my kid. I will say things are improving though. I spent some time this summer organizing my stuff. It's not as bad as it use to be despite what my husband says, and who listens to him anyway...
I want to see the dining room. ;)
Well, I have most of that stuff hidden away in file cabinets now. But there are still a few odd pieces of paper (not genealogy-related) that go back several years that I just can't bring myself to toss or file away - they are ones I keep thinking I'll take some kind of action on.
Wow, quite a few of you did some cleaning up/organizing. The small survey got me thinking about my own desk. Thanks for your comments.
I love seeing other people's work spaces! Thanks for sharing!
